Membership Eligibility - American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39

Become part of the largest women's patriotic service organization in the world! We are the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion, and the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during any of the following periods and died in the line of duty during such service, or who, having received an Honorable Discharge, died after service:

Eligibility Dates

If an individual meets the eligibility requirements for both organizations, it is possible to belong to both, The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. Individuals who belong to both are known as dual members. Members of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion comprise the Legion Family, which has a combined membership of nearly 4.2 million.

Veterans or next-of-kin of a deceased veteran must obtain a copy of DD 214 or Discharge to ascertain membership eligibility.
